New Product Recommendation: GigaDevice Launches Its First GD24CL Series I²C EEPROM

GigaDevice recently announced the launch of its new GD24CL series of EEPROMs, which support the I²C communication interface and debut with a capacity of 256 Kb. The GD24CL series offers high reliability, a high-speed I²C interface, and comprehensive security features, fully meeting the stringent requirements of industries such as industrial control, smart meters, energy management, and digital infrastructure for the long-term, reliable storage of critical configuration parameters. As GigaDevice’s first EEPROM product line, this series further expands the company’s non-volatile memory portfolio while providing customers with a more competitive storage solution to ensure the stable operation of their smart devices.

GigaDevice’s GD24CL series of EEPROMs was designed from the outset with high reliability as its core objective. This product family boasts an endurance of up to 4 million erase/write cycles—four times the industry’s conventional standard—easily meeting the demanding requirements of frequent parameter configuration updates. Data retention exceeds 100 years, ensuring long-term stability for critical archived data. The chips also feature on‑chip hardware ECC (error correction and detection), effectively enhancing data integrity and system reliability. Furthermore, the GD24CL series supports an ultra‑wide operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C, fully covering a broad spectrum of harsh industrial and automotive applications.

In terms of communication‑adaptation capabilities, the GD24CL series supports three I²C clock frequencies—100 kHz, 400 kHz, and 1 MHz—fully covering a wide range of communication requirements, from low‑speed sensor devices to high‑speed industrial control systems. Additionally, the product enables byte‑level random read/write operations, making it particularly well suited for applications that frequently update small batches of parameters. This not only enhances operational flexibility but also further optimizes system data‑write efficiency.

To address system security risks in complex operating conditions, the GD24CL series is equipped with a comprehensive hardware‑based security protection mechanism, providing multi‑layered safeguards for critical data assets. The chip features a built-in Write Protect (WP) hardware write‑protection pin, which effectively prevents unintended data writes caused by system anomalies, program runaway, or malicious attacks. In addition, the device incorporates an Additional Write Lockable Page; once locked, core data becomes immutable, fundamentally eliminating the risk of data tampering and establishing a robust hardware‑level defense for data security.

In terms of power consumption control, the GD24CL series also boasts significant advantages. The devices support a wide operating voltage range of 1.7 V to 5.5 V, with standby current as low as 1 µA, read current as low as 1 mA, and write current as low as 1.5 mA. These low‑power characteristics make this product family an ideal fit for industrial IoT endpoints, green data centers, and other applications with stringent energy‑consumption constraints, providing robust support for extended device battery life.

To accommodate the increasingly compact circuit‑board designs of modern electronic devices, the GD24CL series employs a low‑pin‑count, simple I²C‑based interface for communication with the host controller. Its package options include the SOP8 150mil, TSSOP8 173mil, and the ultra‑thin UDFN8 2×3mm, among other small‑form‑factor packages, enabling customers to achieve more compact and efficient system integration.

The GD24CL series of EEPROMs features a comprehensive capacity roadmap. Currently, sample requests are open for the initial 256 Kb‑capacity device, while 128 Kb and 512 Kb products are under development and slated for release in the first half of 2027, delivering a broad range of competitive storage solutions to an expanding base of industry customers.
