China Electronics Technology Group Corporation No. 11 Institute
The 11th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (hereafter referred to as "Institute 11"), established in 1956, was the first research institute dedicated to electronic components and materials in New China. Over the past six decades, it has undertaken numerous key national science and technology projects, with many breakthroughs successfully transferred to local electronics manufacturing enterprises for production. Additionally, the institute played a pivotal role in relocating and aiding the establishment of 13 specialized electronic factories and research institutes through comprehensive professional relocations. In 1958, it set up an Infrared Technology Laboratory, followed by a Laser Technology Laboratory in 1964. In 1970, with approval from the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the institute fully shifted its research focus toward optoelectronic technologies, centering primarily on solid-state lasers and infrared technologies. Today, Institute 11 stands as the only comprehensive optoelectronic technology research institute in China that integrates cutting-edge research, advanced manufacturing, and robust service support across both laser and infrared fields.
The 11th Institute currently employs over 1,400 staff members and boasts first-class domestic-level research and production infrastructure, along with a world-class working environment, including state-of-the-art indoor sports facilities. Leading the institute are industry pioneers such as Zhou Shouhuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as the Group Company’s Chief Scientist and Chief Expert. The institute has more than 200 employees holding senior professional titles or higher, and 47 of its experts have received special government allowances. To date, the institute has earned 6 National Invention Awards, 40 National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and over 200 provincial- and ministerial-level awards for scientific and technological advancements. Additionally, it has been honored multiple times as a Civilized Unit by central government agencies, the Capital Region, and recognized nationally as an outstanding institution in mass sports activities.
On May 30, 2019, Institute 11 marked a new milestone in state-owned enterprise reform by establishing China Electronics Technology Group Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., built upon the foundation of Institute 11. The company is tasked with "fully achieving independent and controllable capabilities in the optoelectronics field," with its core business focused on infrared materials and devices, as well as laser materials and devices along with their applications. Its flagship products include first-, second-, and third-generation infrared detectors, cutting-edge next-generation infrared detectors, solid-state lasers, and advanced optoelectronic systems and equipment—particularly those tailored for intelligence, information gathering, detection, and perception. Committed to leveraging its strengths in front-end information acquisition within the broader networked information ecosystem, the company aims to comprehensively enhance its capabilities in information capture, transmission, processing, and decision-making. Ultimately, it seeks to become a premier optoelectronic information-gathering node within the networked information framework, solidifying its position as a world-class supplier of optoelectronic products and a leading provider of integrated solutions.
