China Electronics Technology Group Corporation No. 55 Institute
The China Electronics Technology Group Corporation’s 55th Research Institute (referred to as Institute 55), established in 1958, is now part of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation Ltd. Today, Institute 55 has developed a strategic "one park, three sites" infrastructure layout, encompassing the Nanjing Qinhuai Innovation R&D Center (Qinhuai Institute Area), the Jiangning R&D and Production Base (Jiangning Institute Area), the Yangzhou Power Electronics Industry Base, and the Deqing RF Component Industry Base. Institute 55 specializes primarily in research, development, production, services, and applications across two key areas: Solid-State Devices & Microsystems, and Optoelectronic Display & Detection Devices. In the field of Solid-State Devices & Microsystems, the institute has built a comprehensive, self-reliant core technology system spanning design, process engineering, packaging, and testing. It has also established a product portfolio that integrates epitaxial materials, core chips, module components, and RF microsystems—enabling scalable, engineered, and mass-produced solutions tailored for diverse applications. In the optoelectronics display and detection sector, Institute 55 has successfully developed independent core technologies in areas such as ruggedized flat-panel displays, micro-displays, and UV-based optoelectronic detectors. The institute is actively accelerating the commercialization of its innovations while driving industrial growth. As a result, it has cultivated three major industry segments: RF Electronics, Power Electronics, and Optoelectronic Displays & Detection. Its cutting-edge products have found widespread use in sectors like mobile communications, new energy, and next-generation display technologies. Equipped with state-of-the-art research equipment, advanced manufacturing facilities, and robust supporting infrastructure, Institute 55 boasts formidable capabilities in scientific research, production, and technological innovation. The institute serves as a key institutional partner for several national and group-level flagship innovation platforms, including the "National Key Laboratory for Wide-Bandgap Semiconductor Devices and Integration Technologies," the "National Laboratory for Solid-State Microwave Devices and Circuits," the "National Third-Generation Semiconductor Technology Innovation Center (Nanjing)," the "National Flat Panel Display Engineering Technology Research Center," the "National Defense Science and Technology Industry Center for Active Layer Optimization Growth Technology Research and Application," and the "China Electronics Technology Group Carbon-Based Electronics Key Laboratory." Over the past six decades, Institute 55 has achieved more than 3,000 significant scientific and technological breakthroughs, earning two Special Awards and four First-Class National Science and Technology Progress Awards, along with over 60 other prestigious national accolades. Additionally, the institute has received numerous provincial and ministerial-level awards, including special and first-class honors in national defense science and technology progress, further solidifying its reputation as a pioneering hub for original technological innovation. Today, Institute 55 boasts a well-rounded talent pool characterized by a balanced age distribution, a strong professional expertise structure, and rigorous management practices. The institute is home to multiple chief scientists and leading experts from the corporation, as well as 61 distinguished government-sponsored scholars. Many of its researchers have been recognized as national-level candidates under the "New Century Million Talents Program," outstanding young and mid-career experts in the defense science and technology industry, and high-caliber talent nurtured under Jiangsu Province’s "333" program. In recognition of its exceptional contributions, Institute 55 has been honored with prestigious awards such as the Major Contribution Award and Outstanding Contribution Award in Equipment Development, the National Innovation Pioneer Medal, the National Civilized Unit title, the National May Day Labor Medal, the National Model Employee Home award, the National Youth Civilization Unit designation, the National Advanced Unit for Factory Affairs Transparency and Democratic Management, the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Outstanding Contribution Award, the Central Enterprise Advanced Grassroots Party Organization award, the Central Enterprise Advanced Collective award, and the Jiangsu Provincial Advanced Grassroots Party Organization honor.
